Job summary

Tarmac Trading Limited in Liverpool is seeking a hands-on Road Surfacing Operative to join the team based around Liverpool. You will operate surfacing plant, lay asphalt to project specs, and contribute to safe, efficient delivery across major highways projects in the North West.

Ideal candidates have asphalt laying experience, valid plant tickets, and a Full UK driving licence, with a flexible approach to locations and hours. A strong safety culture is essential in this role.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in asphalt laying and road surfacing.
• Proven ability to operate surfacing plant, with relevant plant tickets.
• Experience working on larger infrastructure or motorway projects.
• CSCS card (preferred).
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a gang.
• Good communication skills and a proactive, hands-on attitude.
• Flexible approach to working hours and locations.
• Strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Operating road surfacing plant and equipment such as pavers, rollers, tractors, chippers and associated machinery.
• Working with hot coated materials on live construction and highways environments.
• Laying coated materials in line with specifications and BS tolerances.
• Carrying out day-to-day plant checks and basic maintenance.
• Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards.
• Playing an active role in zero harm, behavioural safety and site compliance.
• Promoting safe working practices and challenging unsafe behaviours on site.

Road Surfacing Operative – Tarmac Agecroft ContractingLocation: Liverpool (North West Region) Experienced in road surfacing? Confident operating surfacing plant? Looking for steady work across major highways projects in the North West? If so, this could be the role for you. We’re looking for a Multi Skilled Road Surfacing Operative to join our friendly team based out of Tarmac Agecroft Contracting in Salford, Greater Manchester covering the Liverpool area. This is a hands on, safety critical role delivering high quality surfacing on some of the region’s most important infrastructure.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Gang Supervisor, you’ll be a key part of a multi‑skilled surfacing team delivering works safely, efficiently and to specification. Your role will include:

• Operating road surfacing plant and equipment such as pavers, rollers, tractors, chippers and associated machinery
• Working with hot coated materials on live construction and highways environments
• Laying coated materials in line with specifications and BS tolerances
• Carrying out day‑to‑day plant checks and basic maintenance
• Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards
• Playing an active role in zero harm, behavioural safety and site compliance
• Promoting safe working practices and challenging unsafe behaviours on site

What we’re looking for

You’ll already have practical experience within road surfacing laying coated materials ideally across highways environments such as motorways, ‘A’ roads and airfields.

Location

Location: as well as Liverpool this role is easily accessible from Birkenhead, Warrington, St Helens, Southport, Widnes, Runcorn, Chester, Ormskirk, Skelmersdale and the surrounding areas.
