If you're passionate about creating positive societal impact and have a solid understanding of the Safe System approach, we’d love to hear from you.

We have a brand-new role for a Road Safety Action Plan Coordinator to coordinate and facilitate the Combined Authority’s commitments within the Regional Road Safety Action Plan 2024-2030. We are continuing to see a concerning rise in the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads and we have a new action plan to deliver road safety interventions to reduce the number of casualties.

In collaboration with local authorities, the police, the Police and Crime Commissioner, relevant charities, and internal stakeholders, you will lead the evidence-based delivery of all action points. You will also be responsible for demonstrating the measurable success—or areas for improvement—of each action in progressing towards our casualty reduction targets.

This is a front-facing and strategic role, responsible for leading the coordination and delivery of 23 multi-disciplinary road safety actions across all local authority areas. You will work closely with partners and champion innovative approaches where evidence shows clear societal benefits for the region

Please note, this is a 1-year fixed term contract which can also be offered as an external secondment.

What you will be doing

  • Provide leadership to internal and external partners aimed at identifying blockages to the effective delivery of the Road Safety Action Plan
  • Support the analysis of data to guide the development and delivery of road safety activities
  • Work alongside the West Midlands Road Safety Commissioner to ensure a coordinated approach to engagement with communities
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external key contacts
  • Support the Regional Road Safety Manager in attending Road Safety Partnership meetings
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to assess performance of all activities against the strategic objectives of the Refreshed Regional Road Safety Strategy
  • Assist the Regional Road Safety Manager in providing behaviour change activities

What’s essential

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of successful work within the road safety sector
  • Experience of working with multiple and varied stakeholders
  • Experience of working within a complex political environment
  • Able to analyse complex information, identifying core issues
  • Able to communicate clearly with stakeholders, both verbally and in written format
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Awareness of broader transport improvement landscape. Recognising the contribution that road safety can have in creating a safe, economic, efficient and environmentally friendly road network
  • Good project management and organisational skills
  • Relevant degree/Level 4 Apprenticeship or significant road safety delivery experience.
