Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking an experienced perioperative nurse to deliver professional care in the operative setting for patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures. The role includes scrubbing, circulating, assisting the physician, and preparing rooms and instruments.

This full-time position requires BLS within 30 days, Alabama RN license, and a nursing diploma; on-call rotation includes holidays, weekends, and evenings.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider required within 30 days of hire, AHA or Red Cross accepted.
• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and current licensure at time of hire.
• Professional RN licensure credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing prior to hire date.

Responsibilities

• Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting for patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures.
• Perform scrub functions: select and handle instruments and supplies used during procedures.
• Perform circulating functions: monitor and document patient condition, manage overall nursing care before, during and after procedures.
• Directly assist the operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure, and patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

  1 Full-time, Monday - Friday, shifts start at 6:00am, 5/8hr shift. Rotating holiday, weekend, and evening call required

Job Description

• Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.
• Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.
• Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure as well as patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire required.
