Position Summary

Baptist Health Princeton Hospital

Position Summary: Administers patient care in an area in a hospital or inpatient setting where patients have an advanced illness or injury that routinely requires timely, intense, and complex care to stabilize and support the patient’s medical condition. These areas require a lower caregiver-to-patient ratio and highly trained team members with advanced skills.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  1. Demonstrates critical knowledge, skills, and judgement to care for patients requiring complex assessment, therapies, high-intensity interventions, and high-level continuous nursing vigilance.
  2. Utilizes information and assessment data to anticipate and respond with confidence, adapting to rapidly changing patient conditions.
  3. Identifies and prioritizes information to take immediate, evidence-based, patient-focused action.
  4. Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, interprets and records electronic displays such as intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, pulmonary artery pressures, and cardiac rhythms from monitors, respirators, ventilators, oxygen pumps, etc.
  5. Responds to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols.
  6. Observes, monitors, and assesses patient condition, recognizes serious situations, and calls physicians or takes emergency measures when physicians are unavailable.
  7. Assesses patient needs and develops or revises an individualized care plan based on patient responses, evaluating progress towards expected outcomes.
  8. Builds respectful relationships with all team members and customers, respecting diversity.
  9. Acts as a patient and family advocate.
  10. Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills.
  11. Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, and/or nurse clinician.
  12. Collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to plan and manage the unit/department effectively.
  13. Supports hospital and nursing department goals and strategies, serving as a role model.
  14. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles, assessing data reflective of patient status, and interpreting information to identify age-specific requirements.
  15. Coordinates patient care, delegating tasks appropriately to team members.
  16. Documents patient care comprehensively, including assessments, education, medications, treatments, and safety measures, meeting all standards.
  17. Maintains competency in nursing skills and equipment specific to the unit/department.
  18. Prioritizes patient care based on Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
  19. Practices effective problem-solving and resolution.
  20. Delegates tasks considering patient needs and team member capabilities.
  21. Communicates patient condition and unit concerns clearly to team members.
  22. Provides compassionate, therapeutic care environments for patients and families.
  23. Maintains awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
Qualifications

Education/Training:

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific unit/department.
