Overview

Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  1. Administers medications within the scope of practice and hospital policies.
  2. Assesses, evaluates, interprets, and documents patients' physical and mental status.
  3. Establishes rapport with patients and significant others to understand care requirements and resolves patient problems through multidisciplinary teams.
  4. Promotes patient independence by establishing care goals; teaching patients and families about conditions, medications, and self-care; answering questions.
  5. Ensures quality of care by adhering to standards, measuring outcomes, and making necessary adjustments.
  6. Maintains a safe and clean environment by complying with procedures and protocols.
  7. Protects patient confidentiality and maintains continuity through documentation.
  8. Maintains professional knowledge through ongoing education and participation in professional societies.
  9. Completes annual competency and regulatory education.
  10. Contributes to team efforts, measured by patient satisfaction metrics like Press Ganey/HCAPS, AIDET, and Model of Care.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of medical equipment.
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to administer medications per policy.
  • Ability to interpret lab and diagnostic results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using SBAR.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Courteous, compassionate, and positive attitude.
  • Clinical skills including bedside manner, infection control, and medication administration.
  • ED/ICU Requirement: ACLS; BLS for Med Surg areas.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Nursing preferred; College Diploma Nursing required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Certified in CPR.

Standards of Behavior: Meets the standards outlined in Personnel Policy and Procedure #1, Employee Relations Code.

Confidentiality/HIPAA/Corporate Compliance: Demonstrates knowledge of procedures to protect and maintain the security, confidentiality, and integrity of all medical and organizational information, supporting Methodist Hospitals' compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
