Position Summary
Administers patient care in an area within a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, medical condition, or post-intervention assessment.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assesses patient needs and develops/revises an individualized care plan based on patient needs and responses. Evaluates the patient’s progress toward expected outcomes.
- Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
- Functions as a patient and family advocate.
- Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills.
- Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
- Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit/department.
- Supports hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies by serving as a role model for staff.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles over the lifespan, assesses patient data, and interprets information to identify age-specific needs.
- Coordinates patient care and delegates tasks appropriately to team members.
- Documents patient care accurately, meeting all standards, including assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and safety.
- Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and equipment use as defined by unit-specific requirements.
- Prioritizes patient care based on Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
- Practices effective problem-solving and resolution.
- Delegates tasks considering patient needs and team member capabilities.
- Communicates patient condition and unit concerns effectively to team members.
- Provides compassionate, therapeutic care environments for patients and families.
- Maintains awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
- Collaborates with education and leadership to support new staff and students.
- Maintains punctual attendance per hospital policies and legal standards.
- Ensures compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
- Contributes to ongoing learning and quality improvement through participation in committees and peer reviews.
- Practices efficient use of supplies and maintains a safe, clean work environment.
- Participates in staff development, meetings, and professional growth activities.
- Partners with leadership to identify development needs and pursues continuing education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training: Graduate of an approved nursing school. Meets all competency requirements for Baptist Health, Orlando Health, and the specific unit/department.
Licensure/Certification: Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC required for certain areas.
