Position Summary

Administers patient care in an area within a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for an injury, episode of illness, medical condition, or post-intervention assessment.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Assesses patient needs and develops/revises an individualized care plan based on patient needs and responses. Evaluates the patient’s progress toward expected outcomes.
  2. Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
  3. Functions as a patient and family advocate.
  4. Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills.
  5. Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
  6. Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage the unit/department.
  7. Supports hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies by serving as a role model for staff.
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles over the lifespan, assesses patient data, and interprets information to identify age-specific needs.
  9. Coordinates patient care and delegates tasks appropriately to team members.
  10. Documents patient care accurately, meeting all standards, including assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and safety.
  11. Demonstrates competency in nursing skills and equipment use as defined by unit-specific requirements.
  12. Prioritizes patient care based on Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
  13. Practices effective problem-solving and resolution.
  14. Delegates tasks considering patient needs and team member capabilities.
  15. Communicates patient condition and unit concerns effectively to team members.
  16. Provides compassionate, therapeutic care environments for patients and families.
  17. Maintains awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
  18. Collaborates with education and leadership to support new staff and students.
  19. Maintains punctual attendance per hospital policies and legal standards.
  20. Ensures compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
  21. Contributes to ongoing learning and quality improvement through participation in committees and peer reviews.
  22. Practices efficient use of supplies and maintains a safe, clean work environment.
  23. Participates in staff development, meetings, and professional growth activities.

Qualifications

Education/Training: Graduate of an approved nursing school. Meets all competency requirements for Baptist Health, Orlando Health, and the specific unit/department.

Licensure/Certification: Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC required for certain areas.
