Position Summary

Baptist Health Princeton Hospital

This position involves administering patient care in an inpatient setting, specifically for patients with advanced illnesses or injuries that require complex, timely, and intensive care to stabilize and support their medical condition. These units require a lower caregiver-to-patient ratio and highly trained team members with advanced skills.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Demonstrate critical knowledge, skills, and judgment to care for patients requiring complex assessments, therapies, high-intensity interventions, and continuous nursing vigilance.
  2. Utilize assessment data to anticipate and respond confidently to rapidly changing patient conditions.
  3. Identify and prioritize information to take immediate, evidence-based, patient-focused actions.
  4. Monitor and adjust specialized equipment, interpret electronic displays such as intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, pulmonary artery pressures, and cardiac rhythms.
  5. Respond to life-saving situations according to nursing standards and protocols.
  6. Observe, monitor, and assess patient conditions, recognize serious situations, and call physicians or take emergency measures when necessary.
  7. Assess patient needs and develop or revise individualized care plans, evaluating progress toward expected outcomes.
  8. Advocate for patients and their families.
  9. Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills.
  10. Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or nurse clinician as appropriate.
  11. Collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to plan and manage patient care effectively.
  12. Model professional behavior and support hospital and nursing goals.
  13. Understand growth and development principles, assess patient data, and interpret information to meet age-specific needs.
  14. Coordinate care and delegate tasks appropriately within the team.
  15. Document patient care comprehensively, meeting all regulatory standards.
  16. Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and equipment use as defined by unit standards.
  17. Prioritize patient care based on Evidence-Based Practice Standards.
  18. Identify and resolve problems effectively.
  19. Delegate tasks considering patient needs and team member capabilities.
  20. Communicate patient condition and unit concerns clearly with healthcare team members.
  21. Provide compassionate, therapeutic care environments for patients and families.
  22. Maintain awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
Qualifications

Education/Training

Graduate of an approved nursing school, meeting all competency requirements for the department.

Licensure/Certification

Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license.

Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.

ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC certifications required for certain areas; NRP for NICU.

Experience

Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required unless approved by AVP or higher; Graduate Nurses may be approved.
