Position Summary

The registered nurse administers patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting, providing active treatment for injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, or post-intervention recovery, including assessment and ongoing evaluation.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Assess patient needs and develop or revise individualized care plans based on patient responses and progress towards expected outcomes.
  • Respect diversity by fostering respectful relationships with team members and patients.
  • Act as a patient and family advocate.
  • Provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge and skills suitable for the patients served.
  • Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or nurse clinician as needed.
  • Collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to plan and manage patient care effectively.
  • Model professional behavior and support hospital and nursing department goals.
  • Understand principles of growth and development, assess patient data, and interpret information to meet individual needs.
  • Coordinate care and delegate tasks appropriately within the healthcare team.
  • Document patient care thoroughly and accurately, including assessments, education, medication administration, and treatments, meeting all regulatory standards.
  • Maintain competency in nursing skills and equipment use.
  • Prioritize patient care based on Evidence-Based Practice Standards of Care.
  • Identify and resolve problems effectively.
  • Delegate tasks considering patient needs and team member capabilities.
  • Communicate patient condition and unit concerns to team members.
  • Provide compassionate, therapeutic care environments for patients and families.
  • Be aware of legal issues and patients’ rights.
  • Support the onboarding and ongoing education of new staff and students.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with hospital policies and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital policies and procedures.
Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Graduate of an approved nursing school.
  • Meet all competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific department.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license.
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC certifications are required for certain units; NRP is required for NICU.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for home nursing duties.

Note: Must be licensed, certified, or registered as required by law or policy in the state of practice.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1-year nursing experience required, unless approved by AVP or higher.
  • Two years of acute care nursing experience required for Hospital Care at Home in-home nursing.
