Administers patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting, providing active treatment for injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, or post-intervention assessments.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assesses patient needs and develops or revises individualized care plans based on patient responses, evaluating progress towards expected outcomes.
- Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with team members and patients.
- Acts as a patient and family advocate.
- Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served, demonstrating necessary knowledge and skills.
- Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or nurse clinician.
- Collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams for effective planning and management.
- Supports hospital and nursing goals by serving as a role model.
- Demonstrates understanding of growth and development principles, assessing patient data to meet age-specific needs.
- Coordinates care and delegates tasks appropriately within the team.
- Documents patient care accurately, including assessments, education, medication administration, treatments, and safety measures.
- Maintains competency in nursing skills and equipment use.
- Prioritizes patient care according to Evidence-Based Practice Standards.
- Identifies and resolves problems effectively.
- Delegates tasks based on patient needs and team member capabilities.
- Communicates patient condition and unit concerns to team members.
- Provides compassionate, therapeutic care environment for patients and families.
- Maintains awareness of legal issues and patient rights.
- Supports new staff and students through collaboration with education and leadership teams.
- Maintains regular, punctual attendance per organizational policies and standards.
- Ensures compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
- Contributes to knowledge sharing, quality improvement, and organizational outcomes.
- Participates in or leads committees on nursing practice and performance improvement.
- Engages in peer review, mentoring, and coaching to enhance professional practice.
- Practices efficient resource use and maintains a safe, clean work environment.
- Attends professional development activities and team meetings.
- Partners with leadership to identify development needs.
- Owns professional growth and continuing education.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training: Graduate of an approved nursing school, meeting all competency requirements for Baptist Health, Orlando Health, and the specific unit.
Licensure/Certification: Current Alabama RN license or valid eNLC multistate license; current BLS certification; ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC certifications as required, especially for NICU.
