Purpose of Position

To provide direct nursing care to the residents, patients, and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by the nursing assistants. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our facility, ensuring that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Description
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
  • Complete all administrative functions as outlined in the job description.
  • Perform all tasks as an RN pertaining to drug administration, as outlined in the job description.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Ensure that prescribed medication for one resident is not administered to another.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment; report needs to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Ensure rooms are ready for new admissions and greet newly admitted residents, assisting with their orientation.
  • Make rounds with physicians as necessary and consult with them regarding resident care.
  • Participate in the facility’s quality assurance program and inspections by government agencies.
  • Review and update residents’ discharge plans, and assist in planning nursing services for discharge.
  • Manage resident admissions, transfers, discharges, and maintain the Daily Census Report.
  • Complete medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting accurately and timely.
  • Encourage physicians to review and sign treatment plans and records; record telephone orders from physicians.
  • Chart nurses’ notes reflecting care provided and resident responses.
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during treatments and examinations.
  • Observe and record significant conditions, notify supervisors or physicians as needed.
  • Monitor vital signs and patient progress.
  • Serve as a leader for nursing personnel as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident information and adhere to residents’ rights.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Nursing Degree from an accredited institution or RN program graduate.
  • Current, active RN license in this state.
  • BLS / CPR and AED certification required.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Knowledge of age-related care needs and legal regulations governing nursing care facilities.
  • Leadership, supervisory skills, and ability to work harmoniously with a team.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and handle difficult situations tactfully.
  • Physical ability to lift at least 50 pounds and meet other physical requirements.
Schedule Details

32 hours/week, rotating nights, 11 p.m. – 7 a.m., every other weekend and holidays included.
