Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking a Risk Manager/Senior Risk Manager in Scotland to join our Energy & Natural Resources team. You will lead risk management across diverse projects, design and implement processes, and drive continuous improvement while mentoring team members.

You will collaborate with project delivery teams, manage risk registers, and support change control and performance measurement baselines. A strong background in risk standards and leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience managing risk across multiple projects/programmes in various sectors.
• Familiar with ISO31000, APM PRAM, Orange Book and IPA risk standards and their application.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor risk teams and provide guidance.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of Risk Management professionals to deliver risk interventions across complex projects/programmes.
• Plan, design and implement risk management processes aligned with client needs and best practice.
• Drive continuous improvement in risk management and project controls to increase efficiency.
• Challenge risk data quality to ensure robustness and credibility.
• Lead the rollout of updated risk management approaches across projects.
• Act as the risk SME on major projects or programmes.
• Collaborate with Integrated Project Team to establish PMB and support change control.
• Deliver risk training and coach team members in risk practices.
• Facilitate risk workshops with SMEs for risk identification and updates.
• Maintain risk registers and ensure data quality and reporting.
• Track mitigation actions and verify their effectiveness across projects.
• Advocate for the benefits and requirements of Risk Management within teams.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Risk Manager / Senior Risk Manager to join our busy and expanding, Scotland based Energy & Natural Resources team, who are undertaking a range of Controls & Performance duties on several high-profile Projects and Programmes.

This role will provide the opportunity to innovate, collaborate, and learn from our experienced and award-winning Risk Management community and wider extensive Controls and Performance Network.

Key Responsibilities

Working alongside project delivery teams as part of a wider risk management team or independently with reach back support to experienced risk professionals, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Leading teams of Risk Management professionals to deliver effective, consistent, assured and value adding risk management interventions across diverse and complex project/ programmes.
• Planning, designing, and implementing risk management processes; tailoring to the client’s needs and aligning with best practice.
• Driving continuous improvement in Risk Management (and interfacing project controls) processes to create efficiency and improve benefits realisation for our clients.
• Challenging risk information to enhance the quality of risk data so that it is robust, stands up to scrutiny and is reflective of the project environment.
• Leading the implementation, embedding and roll-out of any identified changes to Risk Management approaches.
• Acting as the risk subject matter expert on a major project or programme.
• Working with the Integrated Project Team to establish a robust, integrated, well structured, accurate Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB) and support the change control process.
• Designing and delivering risk training, including coaching clients and less experienced team members in risk management processes and practices.
• Design, set-up and facilitation of risk workshops with subject matter experts to aid identification and regular updates of risks and uncertainties.
• Maintenance of project and programme risk registers and other additional risk information including maintaining quality control of risk data and reporting.
• Drive the justification/agreement, implementation and tracking of measurable and specific mitigation actions against associated risks across projects and programmes.
• Actively articulate and promote the benefits and requirement of Risk Management with the project and programme team.
• Lead Quantitative Schedule and Cost Risk Analysis activities (QSRA/QCRA), including risk modelling, interpreting, and communicating the outputs to determine where focus should be applied to benefit the project.
• Supporting efficient contingency forecasting and drawdown processes.
• Working with the supply chain to understand and incorporate the risks they present to clients.
• Supporting T&T’s recruitment activities to grow and develop the risk management and project controls capability.
• Undertaking line management activities including career development and performance management.
• Contribute to the national and regional risk communities including Community of Practice.

Qualifications and experience

• Extensive experience managing risk in multiple projects/programmes across a range of industries and sector is essential.
• Experience in defining, improving, and/or implementing Risk Management approaches is essential.
• Familiarity with several risk standards or approaches (ISO31000, APM PRAM, Orange Book, IPA) and their application is essential.
• Practical experience of Quantitative Cost and Schedule Risk Analysis techniques, including the interpretation of their key outputs is essential.
• Experience using one or more of the popular QRA software options (Primavera Risk Analysis, Risk, Safran etc.) is essential.
• Familiarity with at least one risk database tool (ARM, Predict!, Risk Controller, riskHive, Xactium) is desirable.
• Experience and understanding of the wider project controls disciplines (schedule, cost, reporting) is essential.
• A risk qualification such as from the Institute of Risk Management (IRM), Association for Project Management (APM), or Management of Risk (MoR) is desirable.
• Experience in leading/managing a team is desirable.
• Familiarity with NEC3/4 contracts is desirable.
