Job summary

AJ FOX COMPLIANCE partners with an international legal practice to appoint a Risk Manager for their London office. You will lead the Risk Team, handle the team inbox, and guide analysts while tackling complex compliance and regulatory inquiries across the business.

The ideal candidate is a qualified lawyer or experienced risk professional with 5+ years in an international law firm risk function, deep knowledge of SRA Codes of Conduct and data protection, and proven leadership to advise

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily workflow of the risk team inbox and manage line management duties
• Serve as escalation point for complex risk, conflicts, and data protection queries
• Design and deliver firm-wide risk training sessions including induction modules
• Lead internal risk assessments, file compliance audits, and internal investigations
• Manage data protection matters including data subject access requests and data breach responses
• Review client terms of business with contracts teams
• Monitor regulatory updates and amend internal policies accordingly
• Manage strategic risk projects from inception to completion and maintain compliance systems

Job description

We are working with an international legal practice to hire a Risk Manager for their London office. In this role you will hold overall responsibility for managing the Risk Team inbox, leading a team of analysts, and addressing complex compliance and regulatory inquiries across the business.

The firm is looking for a qualified lawyer or experienced risk professional with a minimum of 5 years of experience working within an international law firm risk function. Candidates must demonstrate deep knowledge of SRA Codes of Conduct and data protection regulations, alongside proven team leadership experience. The ideal candidate will combine structured critical thinking and sound commercial judgement with the confidence, discretion, and drafting skills required to advise internal stakeholders on complex compliance matters.

The responsibilities will include:

• Overseeing the daily workflow of the risk team inbox, managing line management duties, routine check-ins, performance reviews, and recruitment.
• Serving as an escalation point for complex risk, conflicts, data protection, and regulatory queries originating from fee earners and intake teams.
• Designing and delivering firm-wide training sessions, including induction modules, while identifying knowledge gaps and crafting solution-driven materials.
• Leading internal risk assessments, file compliance audits, and internal service investigations across the firm.
• Managing intricate data protection matters, including complex data subject access requests and data breach responses.
• Reviewing and advising on client terms of business in collaboration with specialised internal contracts teams.
• Monitoring legislative and regulatory updates to review, amend, or draft internal policies and operational guidance.
• Managing strategic risk projects from inception to completion, maintaining and updating internal compliance systems and procedures.
