Job description

The Risk Management Program Specialist is responsible for the development of risk management programs that may include, but are not limited to, patient, employee and environmental safety while minimizing the financial and legal risk within the CNE system, its facilities and indemnified physician practices. Develops relationships with new and existing customers, providing information on the Indemnification Programs and Risk Management resources/services available through Care New England. Acts as a contact for problem resolution as appropriate. Responsible for management and oversight of Risk Management projects as required.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements educational programs in conjunction with facility risk management department on a variety of risk topics that serve to support risk management/patient safety initiatives and minimize financial and legal exposures to the system.
  • Coordinates and assists in physician practice and hospital departmental risk management assessments. Reviews and interprets aggregate and individual recommendations to identify high risk areas. Responsible for follow-up and implementation plans in areas identified in risk management assessment recommendations.
  • Assists with research, planning and development of policies and implementation of procedures for underwriting functions within the Indemnification Program.
  • Develops marketing strategies and implements marketing plan for the Indemnification Programs.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with key departments at each facility in order to enhance program effectiveness. Participates or leads various committees, task forces and process improvement teams as appropriate.
  • Reviews and interprets statistical and qualitative risk management reports for dissemination to physician groups, hospital administration, executives and Board members.
  • Maintains regular contact with physicians and physician practices in order to maintain and develop relationships with new and existing customers of the Indemnification Program.
  • Maintains awareness of legislative and regulatory activities related to healthcare risk management and current trends in the industry, and communicates as appropriate.
  • Discusses patient information only when related to job responsibilities. Treats files, charts, reports, and other confidential documents with utmost security.
  • Cooperatively provides back-up for other staff members as needed.
  • Assists with special projects as requested to achieve department (Quality Management and Risk Management) goals. Actively participates in meetings and on committees as appropriate.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

Bachelor’s Degree required with 3-5 years of professional liability, risk management or data analysis experience preferred. Additional coursework or seminars in insurance or risk management. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills as well as strong analytical skills required. Must be fluent in English.
