What will you do on the programme?

Imagine helping deliver some of the UK’s most complex and vital nuclear projects, where every decision shapes the safety and future of our communities. On our Risk Management Graduate Programme, you’ll become an essential part of the team that keeps things running smoothly, safely and on time.

Your journey with us will be full of variety and discovery. One placement might see you in Warrington, where you’ll work on the Process, Plant & Equipment Programme or support the Vault Retrievals Project. Another placement might take you to Glasgow to get involved with the Nuclear Technical Support Provider (NTSP) Framework. You’ll have plenty of opportunities and exposure, from supporting high-profile bids for new work to developing your skills in risk modelling.

Throughout each rotation, you’ll work side-by-side with Project Controls and experienced Risk Managers, learning how to identify and assess project risks and playing your part in bringing critical national infrastructure to life.

Every week brings new people, fresh perspectives and different experiences, and your ideas will always be welcomed.

How is the programme structured?

Across two years, you’ll rotate through a series of six-month placements that each offer something different.

With every placement, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of risk management – mastering risk identification, assessment, review, and modelling techniques in real environments.

As you move through the programme, your confidence will grow, and so will your responsibility. By the end of your journey, you’ll be ready to take on your own projects and make a meaningful difference to the future of Cavendish Nuclear.

How do we develop and support you?

From day one, you’ll receive structured support, personalised training, and dedicated mentorship to help you excel throughout your programme and beyond.

You’ll join our Graduate Development Programme, featuring expert-led masterclasses on communication, personal branding, resilience, and wellbeing.

On top of this, you’ll be encouraged and sponsored to join the Association for Project Management, with opportunities to work towards recognised industry qualifications such as APM Project Management Fundamentals and APM Risk Levels One and Two.

You’ll also get to take part in our in-house Quantitative Risk Analysis Bootcamp, giving you practical experience you can apply straight away.

What rewards and benefits will you get?

We want you to feel supported, valued and excited about what’s ahead. That’s why we offer a comprehensive package designed to support your development, your wellbeing and your life outside of work too.

In addition to a minimum starting salary of £35,000, you’ll benefit from:

  • A minimum of 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, with agile working options subject to discussion with your manager
  • Generous pension and employee share schemes
  • Flexible benefits, including cycle to work scheme, discounts
  • Wellbeing support, covering mental, physical, financial, and social wellbeing, with services like our Employee Assistance Programme, digital GP service, and health checks.

You’ll also have the chance to get involved in our STEM outreach activities and volunteering opportunities.

What do you need to apply?

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Risk Management, Project Management or Economics.
  • Many of our graduate programmes are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which programmes you are eligible for. For this programme, you must be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK.

Where will you be based?

Places on our Risk Management programme for Autumn 2026 are available at Cavendish Nuclear. You could be based in a number of locations including Bristol, Warrington, Newbury and Leicester in England and Glasgow in Scotland. We ask our graduates to be flexible as there is the potential to undertake placements in other locations during their programme.

Cavendish Nuclear is a core part of Babcock International Group’s Nuclear Sector. We provide a comprehensive range of critical nuclear solutions across the markets of Clean Energy, Defence and Civil Decommissioning, both in the UK and internationally. From decommissioning redundant nuclear facilities, through supporting the Continuous at Sea Deterrent, to supporting the operation and build of nuclear power plants, our role in Cavendish Nuclear is to clean up the nuclear legacy and create a world where nuclear plays a key contribution in protecting our nation, ensuring security of energy supply and meeting our net zero commitments.

Ready to apply?

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the programme may close early if we receive a high volume of interest. To give yourself the best chance of being considered, we strongly recommend submitting your application and completing any required online assessments as soon as possible.
