Job Title: Risk Lawyer (12-month FTC). Role: Full Time. Department: Business Services. Location: Bristol. Experience: Business Services.

The Risk & Compliance (R&C) team at RPC provides risk related advice, guidance on compliance and general support to the firm. In an increasingly complex and regulated environment, our lawyers depend on an efficient R&C team to give sound and timely guidance and advice. As currently configured, the team only deals with conflicts and CDD queries by exception. We are looking to recruit a risk lawyer to join our R&C team to assist the more senior lawyers in the team. The team led by our General Counsel consists of ten members within the team who are a mix of qualified lawyers and compliance specialists.

The ideal candidate will already have some experience in legal Risk & Compliance or be someone with an interest in developing their career in this area. They would be a solicitor or other qualified legal professional, but we will consider someone soon to be admitted or an existing solicitor apprentice. Outstanding candidates who are not qualified but with appropriate experience in a Risk & Compliance team will also be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Triage of the R&C inbox and responding to queries
  • Acting as the first point of escalation for queries by team members on how to approach issues that have arisen on tasks they are dealing with
  • Working with other Risk Lawyers on maintaining our breach (and other) logs, and appropriate reporting
  • Providing a 'Risk' voice on a number of internal projects
  • Assisting the more senior R&C lawyers in a number of R&C projects, including a new Client Matter Inception project
  • Assisting with our wider Data Protection work. This includes advising on internal noted data breaches, general Data Protection queries, DSAR requests and wider project work, working in conjunction with our Data Protection Manager
  • Putting together materials for escalated decisions either to the other lawyers in the team or to the COLP or MLRO
  • Providing R&C guidance and support to Business Services departments and to our international offices
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset and is committed to lifelong learning to build knowledge and expertise
  • Ideally 0-3 years PQE but we will consider other experience that is relevant
  • Experience of Data Protection legislation is preferred
  • Experience of the insurance market or time spent as a paralegal on litigation matters would be helpful but not essential
  • Ability to write persuasively in plain English
  • Experience of using Intapp Open software is desirable
  • Proven experience in an established compliance team within a law firm
  • Works commercially to achieve the objectives of the team/firm
  • Proactively plans, prioritises, allocates resources and uses technology to ensure they and the team work efficiently and commercially
  • Develops internal and external client relationships and adopts a client-centric approach to deliver innovative solutions
  • Collaborative and works effectively in a team

  • Delegates work effectively and understands how to develop junior team members and support their ambitions
  • Committed to being part of a supportive, inclusive and collaborative firm culture
Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging

We are problem solvers. Whether in front of clients or behind the scenes. To solve problems creatively for clients, we need diverse collaborative thinking; drawing on different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives. That means that everyone who either applies to, or works for, the firm is treated equitably. We believe in removing barriers to equal access not least because our people define us and define what we do. If you need support and adjustments to do your best work, whether that's during the recruitment process or throughout your time at RPC, we're here to help.

Flexible working that supports your commitments outside of work is an important part of our culture and, where possible, we will support this across all roles. Please get in touch with our recruitment team if you have any questions about our hybrid working approach or flexible working policy.
