Overview

Risk Engineer — Loss Control Surveyor. This role covers the Midlands area with a remote/field component, including multi-site travel and a Company Car Scheme / Car Allowance. You will complete detailed underwriting risk surveys for domestic, bespoke, and commercial customers to support risk management decisions.

Join NFU Mutual as a Loss Control Surveyor and play a pivotal role in shaping risk management strategies for a diverse portfolio of customers. Your primary responsibility will involve conducting thorough underwriting risk assessments across various sectors including domestic, bespoke, and commercial. Through site visits and remote surveys, you will provide technical insights to our Underwriting teams to facilitate informed insurance decisions and effectively mitigate risks for customers and the business.

You will produce detailed technical reports that capture the nuances of underwriting risk assessments to a professional standard. Using defined systems and frameworks, you will ensure that insurance decisions — quotes, renewals, or rejections — are reached promptly to enable seamless operations for Underwriting and Brokers. You will also engage in site reviews and consultancy with customers, collaborating with Agents and Brokers to manage stakeholders effectively. By sharing knowledge of potential risks and viable solutions, you will contribute to reducing risk and losses. You will have opportunities to contribute to the broader professional community by researching, producing, and disseminating technical guidance for clients and colleagues. This is the role known internally as Loss Control Surveyor.

Responsibilities
  • Complete detailed underwriting risk surveys for domestic, bespoke, and commercial customers
  • Produce detailed technical risk assessments and reports to support underwriting decisions
  • Conduct site visits and remote surveys to gather risk information and provide actionable insights
  • Collaborate with Underwriting, Agents and Brokers to manage stakeholders and facilitate timely quotes, renewals, or rejections
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing by researching and disseminating technical guidance
About you

You'll be an experienced Loss Control Surveyor with knowledge of current risk management and loss prevention practices across a broad range of insurance risks. You should have significant experience surveying and consulting in large and complex commercial environments, with the ability to interpret underwriting requirements and communicate effectively with stakeholders. You will also:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in current risk management and loss prevention practices across diverse insurance risks
  • Have proven surveying and consulting experience in commercial settings with strong attention to detail
  • Possess excellent communication skills to engage customers and influence decisions
  • Be able to interpret underwriting requirements accurately to align with risk management strategies
  • Have experience or knowledge from roles in Underwriting, Claims, Surveying, Commercial Engineering, or related disciplines

A full valid UK Driving Licence is essential.
