About your role:

We’re seeking a confident, detail-driven Risk & Controls Manager for a 6-month contract to lead risk management across customer-facing digital and CX at British Gas Energy. This highly visible role involves ensuring customer communications, campaigns, and journeys are designed with appropriate risk, regulatory, and reputational considerations. You’ll work with the Enterprise Risk Management team to align risks with organisational frameworks, surface risks early, shape mitigation plans, and promote good governance. You’ll also lead risk forums, report to stakeholders, and foster proactive risk management within CX & Marketing. If you’re passionate about customer trust, compliance, and managing risks in a customer-facing environment, this role is ideal for you.

Your responsibilities:

  • Champion risk mitigation related to customer journeys, marketing campaigns, digital engagement, and external communications.
  • Align CX & Marketing operations with ERM risk guidelines and methodologies.
  • Manage the monthly CX & Marketing Risk Forum, engaging senior stakeholders and supporting mitigation actions.
  • Translate complex risk issues into clear recommendations for teams.
  • Monitor regulatory, reputational, and operational risks impacting customer experience, providing early warnings.
  • Develop a comprehensive view of CX controls, identify gaps, and lead control reconciliation.
  • Serve as the main contact for CX, Digital, and Marketing risk, controls, and audit queries.
  • Support campaign and journey reviews to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Embed customer experience considerations into resilience planning and crisis response.
  • Represent CX & Customer engagement in governance forums, articulating risk issues at senior levels.
  • Build relationships across functions to embed risk-aware decision-making.
  • Coordinate with Group Risk, Compliance, and ERM teams on audits, assessments, and exercises.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Strong background in risk, compliance, customer experience, marketing, or similar in regulated environments.
  • Understanding of regulatory expectations (e.g., Ofgem, FCA, GDPR).
  • Experience with ERM frameworks and risk governance processes.
  • Knowledge of energy, retail, or oil & gas industry trends is advantageous.
  • Ability to communicate complex risk issues clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong influencing and relationship-building skills with senior stakeholders.
  • Proactive, organized, with excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Familiarity with risk tools and documentation frameworks is a plus.
