Location: Derby, UK

Description

The principal purpose of the compliance function at Flint Bishop is to monitor compliance with applicable laws and regulations across the following key areas: Money Laundering, Financial Crime, Data Protection, SRA Standards and Regulations, Health and Safety, Environmental, Client Care, and Quality.

This role is vital in supporting the businesses growth strategy and to drive forward development plans for the risk and compliance function. The risk and compliance advisor/solicitor will act as a second line of defence and support management to help ensure risk and controls are effectively managed, and provide expert advice to the business.

The role will report to the Head of Compliance and work within a dedicated compliance department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handling business as usual notifications such as conflict of interests, general compliance queries, breaches, complaints, and professional negligence claims. Ensuring all are handled in accordance with our internal procedures, are proactively managed, and are escalated as appropriate. Where necessary, liaising with regulators and/or Legal Ombudsman to ensure the most favourable outcomes are achieved.
  • Technical expert and point of escalation for junior members of the Compliance team.
  • Identification of risk and development and maintenance of central risk registers.
  • Identification and management of business as usual risks particularly around ethical, regulatory, and professional conduct.
  • Facilitate and monitor the implementation of effective risk management practices, assisting risk owners in defining risk exposure and providing adequate risk reporting.
  • Ongoing development of risk assessments, policies, procedures, guidance, and training material.
  • Perform risk reviews and thematic reviews to identify risks and implement suitable controls to support our risk mitigation strategies.
  • Providing compliance guidance to the business on regulatory issues and professional ethics.
  • Providing responses to client audits, questionnaires, and tenders.
  • Leading on and supporting with continual improvement projects.
  • Horizon scanning key risk and compliance requirements such as Money Laundering, Financial Crime, Data Protection, and SRA Standards and Regulations.
  • Analysing risk and compliance information and producing reports.
  • Providing risk and compliance updates and feedback to various forums across all levels of the business.
  • Providing support for internal projects and change management to meet risk and compliance responsibilities e.g. acquisitions.
  • Provide cover for the Head of Compliance and other team members during any periods of absence.
  • Ad hoc duties and projects as required by the Head of Compliance.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will:

  • Be a qualified solicitor and/or extensive compliance experience in a regulated business.
  • Have in depth knowledge of Money Laundering Regulations, Data Protection Laws, and SRA's Standards and Regulations.
  • Have extensive claims and complaint handling experience.
  • Have the ability to remain calm under pressure and make informed and reasonable decisions.
  • Be organised, process driven and analytical with a pragmatic approach to finding solutions.
  • Be highly self-motivated and comfortable with regular deadlines.
  • Requisite integrity and discretion to work with confidential information.
  • Have outstanding record keeping and written skills.
  • Be a good team player.
  • Be proficient in learning new systems.
  • Be competent user of Microsoft Office.
