Job description

The Assessment and Early Resolution Team (AERT) are looking for a Risk Assessment Officer (hybrid - Birmingham).

The role

We receive thousands of reports every year raising allegations of misconduct and regulatory breaches against those we regulate.

As a Risk Assessment Officer working with our Assessment Team, you will review, analyse and prioritise incoming reports of misconduct about solicitors according to their risk. You will also assess some of our lower risk reports using our Assessment Threshold Test, and the Enforcement Strategy. You can read more about our approach to enforcement here.

Once a report has been created, our Investigation Officers in AERT review it first and decide whether the SRA should investigate further. You will also be responsible for responding to general enquiries from the public and internal stakeholders.

The work is high volume and fast paced and Risk Assessment Officers need a keen eye for detail and an analytical and curious mindset as every report is different.

You will need to be able to quickly identify sensitive, high risk and high-profile matters. Your communication skills will be important to obtain further clarification or evidence from the public, profession, other regulators and internal SRA sources regarding their reports.

What the role offers
  • A chance to use your excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills working in a fast-paced environment.
  • An opportunity to showcase your exemplary communication skills both in writing and on the telephone.
  • The satisfaction of working closely with others in a small friendly team, triaging emails quickly and efficiently to meet team KPIs.
  • The chance to develop your working knowledge of the types of misconduct that are reported to Investigation and Supervision and to understand the types of work that is done by other teams within the SRA.
  • Opportunity to work with and learn about departments across the SRA and develop your knowledge of the regulatory environment
What we are looking for
  • Experience of using your judgment to make good decisions, particularly identifying risk.
  • Experience of handling and responding to enquiries from members of the public and profession
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work accurately within strict time constraints and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to produce high quality work under pressure
  • Excellent analytical skills and an investigative mindset
