Job summary

The Automobile Association AAUICL seeks a dedicated Risk & Compliance professional to develop and embed its risk management framework, aligning with Group Risk and Compliance to keep systems fit for purpose and support business needs. You will partner with Risk Owners to identify, assess and manage risks, driving improvements and robust controls.

Reporting to the Head of Risk, Compliance and Operations, you’ll translate regulatory obligations (GFSC, FCA, Solvency II) into practical guidance,

  • Strong experience within UK personal lines insurance.
  • Solid understanding of operational risk and compliance from frontline, advisory or assurance roles.
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory information into clear guidance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Develop and embed AAUICL's Risk Management Framework aligned with Group Risk & Compliance.
  • Partner with Risk Owners to identify, assess and manage risks; recommend improvements and strengthen controls.
  • Analyse risks, issues and incidents; provide clear reporting for governance and decision-making.
  • Support compliance with GFSC, FCA and Solvency II requirements; educate colleagues and outsourced providers.

Job description

  • Develop and embed AAUICL's Risk Management Framework, aligning with Group Risk & Compliance so that risk systems and processes remain fit for purpose and support business needs.
  • Partner with Risk Owners to identify, assess and manage risks, facilitating assessments and recommending practical improvements that strengthen controls and mitigate issues.
  • Analyse risks, issues and incidents to identify root causes and provide clear reporting that supports informed decisions and effective governance.
  • Support compliance with relevant statutory, legislative and regulatory requirements, including GFSC, FCA and Solvency II requirements, helping colleagues and outsourced service providers understand their obligations.
  • Maintain effective Conduct and Customer Outcomes arrangements, helping the business identify and reduce the risk of poor customer outcomes.
  • Oversee key third-party and outsourcing arrangements, compliance risks, registers and control activity to support an effective Risk & Compliance function and strong lines of defence.
  • Coordinate compliance and audit actions, regulatory submissions and reporting for governance forums, helping ensure actions and deadlines are managed through to completion.
  • Strong experience within UK personal lines insurance, with a solid understanding of operational risk and compliance gained through frontline, advisory or assurance roles.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to connect information across data sets and make clear, timely recommendations.
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, with sound judgement around decision‑making, escalation and risk mitigation.
  • Confident stakeholder skills, with the ability to build productive relationships, influence effectively and work across different levels of an organisation.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical or regulatory information into accessible guidance.
  • Strong planning, organisation and attention to detail, with experience developing or implementing policies, processes or procedures and managing priorities to deadlines., Knowledge of GFSC, FCA or Solvency II requirements.
  • Degree‑level education or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience working across UK and Gibraltar operations, or within a cross‑jurisdictional insurance or regulatory environment.

Reporting to the Head of Risk, Compliance and Operations, you'll help develop and embed AAUICL's risk and control framework, supporting the business to achieve its strategic objectives while keeping good customer outcomes at the heart of decision‑making. You'll partner with Risk Owners and colleagues across The AA, helping identify, assess, mitigate and report risks, while supporting compliance with relevant regulatory requirements. You'll also help keep compliance, audit and regulatory actions moving through to completion, bringing together strong analysis, attention to detail and confident stakeholder communication. This role will suit someone who takes a pragmatic, process‑focused approach and can translate complex information into clear guidance.
