Job description

A fantastic opportunity has become available as a Risk Analyst Lead - Data Science in our thriving Risk Decision & Data Science team - winners of the "Credit Modelling & Risk Team of the Year" at both the 2022 and 2020 Credit Strategy Awards, "Best Use of Technology" at the 2019 Credit Strategy Awards and winners at the Women in Credit Awards for "Rising Star of the Year" (2022 and 2023) and "Team Player of the Year" (2022).


The team develop models which support lending decisions, detect economic crime, and ensure the society is safe and secure.


As a Risk Analyst Lead, with the help of a Risk Manager, you will be responsible for supporting projects relating to the ongoing development and maintenance of Risk Data Science models across multiple cycles (Application, Behavioural and Collections/Recoveries), Economic Crime and Affordability for all our Retail lending portfolios, enabling the business to make better decisions for our members. As well as traditional model development techniques, including regression modelling, the use of cutting-edge Machine Learning will also feature within model development and maintenance.


This role is suitable for highly numerate individuals looking to apply learnings from their degree within a practical environment as part of a high-performance hybrid working team (working from home and in person), with a fantastic culture. Capability to translate complex issues into a more palatable form for a less technical audience will also be critical to ensure productive relationships with key stakeholders.

What you'll be doing

Under the guidance of your line manager, you will undertake work that will be varied and technically demanding, and you could be working on your own or as part of a wider team.


You'll need to write and run code in Python and SAS to produce the data required to identify key insights, monitor model performance, and support the development of Data Science models using relevant statistical techniques.


You'll also be building relationships with team members and across the business to present your insights, ensure our models are understood, and our models are used optimally to benefit our customers.


About you

  • Have a PhD, MSc or strong quantitative degree from a Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related subject.
  • Enjoy working with data, developing Data Science solutions, interpreting results and making recommendations.
  • Have experience of presenting / explaining your findings to others both verbally and through a written report.
  • Able to build relationships across the business and confidently present to all levels, whilst adapting to the audience.
  • Demonstrate a strong aptitude for programming and coding tools such as Python / R / SAS.
