We have been mining for 150 years and operate with knowledge built up across generations and continents. Our purpose is finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs—striving for innovation and continuous improvement to produce materials with low emissions and to the right environmental, social and governance standards. But we can’t do it on our own, so we’re focused on creating partnerships to solve problems, create win-win and meet opportunities.

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Adviser Executive Communications to deliver impactful content for the Group CEO and Chairman in alignment with Rio Tinto’s strategic goals. This role is ideal for a highly experienced communications professional with a strong background in executive speechwriting and managing top-level corporate communications.

This is a great opportunity for a creative and results-driven individual to collaborate closely with senior leadership in a fast-paced and influential role.

Reporting to the Head of External Communications and working in a collaborative environment within the Corporate Affairs team, you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering high-quality content for the Group CEO and Chairman’s communications.
  • Writing speeches and other CEO communications, ensuring alignment with Group values and strategy.
  • Managing the Group CEO’s personal social media accounts in collaboration with the Social Media team and Chief of Staff Group.
  • Collecting feedback to continually improve CEO communications.
  • Supporting ExCo speechwriting needs and additional communication demands.
  • Keeping abreast of the Group’s strategy and key issues for accurate CEO support.
  • Monitoring industry trends to propose new and innovative ideas for CEO communications.
  • Maintaining a consistent tone of voice in all communications across various channels.
  • Communicate and ensure alignment of the Group CEO’s priorities with the wider Communications team.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Over 10 years of experience in communications, particularly at senior levels.
  • Expertise in executive speechwriting and high-profile communications.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building ability with key stakeholders.
  • High discretion and diplomacy in handling sensitive communications.
  • A background in journalism will be highly regarded
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams and share expertise.
  • Capacity to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines.

What we offer

Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you’ve helped the world progress.

  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
  • A competitive salarypackage with annual cash incentive awards for eligible employees
  • Career development & education assistance to further your ambitions
  • Access top tier family-friendly health and medical programs and pension plan
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Ongoing individual wellbeing support for you and your family for personal and professional matter
  • Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave)

Where you’ll be working

Rio Tinto’s global headquarters is situated in St. James’s Square, in the City of Westminster, London, on the edge of the West End, and is the site of the group’s original head office. Located over several floors, the office is truly a global hub for the business and is the base for many members of the Executive Committee. As such, the grade II listed office reflects the vibrancy of the location, although it also overlooks the tranquillity of the only garden square in the district and is a short walk from Green Park and Piccadilly underground stations.
