Job summary

BD Group is seeking an experienced RICS-qualified Surveyor to join our housing condition team in Dagenham. You will conduct detailed inspections, diagnose defects, and prepare Schedules of Disrepair for legal cases, while providing expert guidance to landlords, tenants, and legal representatives.

You will produce Part 35 compliant expert witness reports, mentor junior surveyors, and support the legal teams with recommendations for settlements.

Qualifications

• RICS qualification is mandatory and essential.
• Proven experience in surveys and Schedules of Disrepair for legal cases.
• Strong knowledge of housing legislation, landlord and tenant law, and building regs.
• Experience as expert witness and Part 35 compliant reports.
• Excellent building pathology knowledge and diagnostic skills.
• Familiarity with Civil Procedure Rules and court processes.
• Experience with disrepair software/databases is desirable.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

RICS Surveyor - new opportunity!

BD Group is seeking an experienced and meticulous RICS-qualified Surveyor with excellent technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Key responsibilities

• Conduct detailed inspections of residential and commercial properties, documenting disrepair in line with legislation and standards.
• Diagnose building defects and provide expert recommendations to resolve housing condition claims.
• Prepare comprehensive Schedules of Disrepair, outlining defects, causes, and remedial works.
• Produce impartial expert witness reports compliant with Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules.
• Advise landlords, tenants, and legal representatives on disrepair matters.
• Attend site meetings, joint inspections, and court appearances as required.
• Stay up to date with housing legislation, case law, and industry best practices.
• Mentor junior surveyors and provide technical guidance where appropriate.
• Support legal teams with expert advice and recommendations for financial settlements.
• Ensure compliance with BD Group's Health & Safety Policies.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• RICS qualification (Mandatory).
• Proven experience in surveys and preparing Schedules of Disrepair for legal cases.
• Strong knowledge of housing legislation, landlord and tenant law, and building regulations.
• Experience acting as an expert witness and preparing Part 35 compliant reports.
• Excellent building pathology knowledge and diagnostic skills.
• Familiarity with Civil Procedure Rules and court processes.
• Experience with disrepair software/databases (desirable).
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Working Arrangements

• Working pattern: full-time, 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
• Flexibility to attend site on weekends as needed.
• Term: Permanent
• Location: Dagenham
• Some travel required throughout the borough in line with requirements of the role.
