Job summary

Sofant Technologies is seeking an RF System Engineer to define top-level specifications for phased arrays in Edinburgh, UK. You will perform system simulations, develop control algorithms, and write specifications for integration with digital hardware and software teams.

Responsibilities include creating detailed RF system requirements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading board-level integration and debugging efforts across subsystems.

Qualifications

RF System Engineer - Edinburgh, UK

Company Description

Sofant Technologies Ltd is a highly innovative technology company which based in the heart of Edinburgh, we are a growing company with a talented team of around 40 people. We are in the process of launching a satellite communications terminal which is industry-leading in terms of Size, Weight, Power consumption and Cost (SWAP-C). Sofant has developed a low-cost phased array antenna platform which solves fundamental power consumption and heat problems in high frequency antenna systems. We are an ambitious later stage start-up which has received £20m in private equity and grant funding. Sofant is targeting a $11B market opportunity in satellite communications and in the future, it will target 5G and 6G applications with the same platform.

Description

The System Engineer is responsible for the top-level specification of Sofant phased arrays. This will involve system simulation, algorithm development and specification writing.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed system requirements based on customer requirements

• Lead RF system integration and debug activity at board level
• Develop algorithms for control of RF blocks
• Collaborate with Digital hardware and software team to integrate and validate algorithms

Essential

• Bachelor/Master of Electrical Engineering
• Knowledge and experience of RF and System Modelling
• Knowledge and experience creating algorithms to control complex systems
• Knowledge and experience of System integration, prototyping, measurement and transfer to production
• Demonstrated ability of working independently with minimal supervision
• High levels of energy and the ability to work with both commercial and technical employees
• Have analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills

Desirable

• Knowledge and experience with PCB layout for complex systems
• Knowledge and experience with link budget calculations
• Knowledge and experience with Keysight SystemVue
• PhD or Masters in RF Systems or Communications Theory
