Role overview:

Established in 1981 with a single store in the North West of England, the JD Group is a leading global omnichannel retailer of Sports Fashion and Outdoor brands. The Group now has over 3,000 stores across 38 territories with a strong presence in the UK, Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. In addition we operate over 200 JD Gyms throughout the UK.

The Reward & Compliance Manager will lead the Reward & Compliance team on a basis in executing all Reward & Compliance initiatives as well as ensuring the execution of "business as usual" activities

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for delivering regular employment compliance documents such as:
    • Monthly Senior Leadership Payroll;
    • Annual P11D reporting;
    • Annual P11D (b) reporting;
    • Annual Employment Related Securities returns for the Group; and
    • Gender pay gap reporting (from a UK and European perspective where required).
  • Supporting the Reward & Compliance Senior Manager and Head of Reward with both Global and United Kingdom reward which includes:
    • Executive and Senior Leadership team awards;
    • Pay review for all UK employees;
    • Supporting overseas teams with annual pay review; and
    • Support in preparing documentation for regular Remuneration Committee meetings.
  • Accountability for responding to employment compliance queries from the Group and external bodies , escalating queries where appropriate.
  • Responsible for managing, coaching and influencing those within the Reward & Compliance team to ensure development of junior members of the team from a technical and commercial understanding perspective.
  • Work as a consultant to senior members of the People department to ensure compliance across new and current initiatives.
  • In conjunction with the Reward & Compliance Analyst, cleanse, analyse and review large amounts of people data (including sensitive information such as gender, salary, location etc) maintaining clear audit trails in accordance with GDPR regulations.
  • Document Reward & Compliance processes and translates them into reportable documents for the purposes of internal reporting as well as oversee the document retention process for the Reward & Compliance team.
  • Support the Group with wider initiatives and projects which will include:
    • Review of Human Resource Information System ("HRIS");
    • Review of Group's approach to Holiday Pay compliance;
    • Review of Group's approach to National Minimum Wage ("NMW") compliance; and
    • Review of Group's approach to Off-payroll Workers.
  • Additional duties and projects as required in relation to pay governance

Technical skills and competencies

  • Strong understanding of payroll processes and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of processing payroll, ideally with some experience in respect of Executives.
  • Working knowledge of Dayforce.
  • Able to cleanse and analyse large sets of people data presenting them in a way which is simple and easy to understand for senior stakeholders.
  • An understanding of UK employment compliance and pay governance.
  • Ability to assess, understand and summarise both UK and global Employment Tax legislation.
  • Proficiency in excel, word and other database software. Experience with Alteryx, Power BI or a similar software would also be preferrable.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and articulately with senior stakeholders (both internal and external) and to guide and influence, with the confidence to challenge current practices appropriately where required.Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions/improvements.
  • Makes decisions based on policies and procedures whilst considering the impact on the Group.
  • Flexible to work outside of standard office hours if required to support a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or experience in an relevant area.
  • Related experience in a related field such as reward, compliance or payroll.
  • Professional body qualification (eg CIPP/ATT/CTA)
