Overview

You\'ll be responsible for delivering an efficient and effective council tax collection service, with a strong focus on debt recovery. The role involves direct customer contact, accurate account management, and the application of discounts, exemptions, and recovery procedures in line with legislation.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively contact taxpayers to discuss arrears and secure payments
  • Set up accounts and apply relevant reliefs, discounts, and exemptions
  • Instigate and manage recovery procedures in accordance with council tax regulations
  • Respond to enquiries via phone, email, letter, and face-to-face, meeting customer care standards
  • Dispatch demand notices and recovery letters on schedule
  • Maintain and update the revenues database using NEC Revs & Bens and Civica systems
  • Support court proceedings and fraud investigations under senior guidance
  • Handle complex complaints, FOI requests, and appeals preparation
  • Ensure timely and professional responses to official complaints and member enquiries
Requirements
  • Proven experience in council tax debt collection and recovery
  • Confident communicator with strong negotiation skills
  • Proficient in NEC Revs & Bens and Civica Document Management systems
