Reuse Shop / Site Operative

What will I be doing?

Through our waste contract with Tees Valley HWRC, SUEZ has committed to establishing re-use shops at our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) to resell donated items.

As a shop operative, you will be responsible for the daily operations of our re-use shop at Tees Valley HWRC, working with the re-use manager to ensure the shop is fully stocked and everything is properly stored or prepared for sale.

This will involve you:

• Merchandising stock, organizing, preparing, pricing, and presenting donations for sale to increase sales and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Managing stock and communicating with the re-use manager about stock needs.
• Operating the cash register, handling cash and credit card receipts, and processing returns and refunds.
• Ensuring goods are sold at appropriate prices and rejected items are disposed of properly.
• Arranging collections and deliveries efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Maintaining the security of the shop, stock, and cash.
• Promoting the shop's values and the charitable nature of the re-use scheme.
• Providing excellent customer service to encourage repeat business and support the smooth, profitable operation of the shop.

What are the requirements?

• You should be passionate about the environment and the re-use project, with retail experience and enthusiasm for excellent customer service.
• Knowledge of recycling and upcycling is desirable, or you should be willing to develop this quickly. You should understand stock maintenance, merchandising, and handling financial transactions.
• A flexible attitude towards shift work and weekends is necessary.
• Confidence to work alone initially in the re-use shop until volunteers are recruited.
• Excellent teamwork skills, as you will collaborate closely with site staff at the HWRCs.
• This role involves primarily working in the re-use shop, but when not in the shop, you will be part of the site operative team at the HWRC.
