As Deputy Manager, you will work in collaboration with the Store Manager to maximise profit, lead the team, deliver seamless operations, and ensure the success of our store.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Review sales, operations, and digital performance weekly to identify priorities and drive improvement actions.
  • Focus on delivering great availability and cost controls through excellent processes.
  • Create a culture of selling and saving to maximise store sales and profit.
  • Deliver on all KPIs.
  • Support the Store Manager with Talking Shop initiatives.
  • Drive team engagement through effective communication, appreciation, and respect.
  • Foster an inclusive culture where everyone can excel at work.
  • Upskill the team using resources, development options, and on-the-job coaching.
  • Manage team performance effectively through ongoing conversations.

Doing the right processes and doing them right:

  • Complete daily store walks to focus on customer experience and take relevant actions.
  • Model proactive service in-store and at the doorstep.
  • Implement cash handling and security policies fully.
  • Ensure digital service standards are met through the team.
  • Maintain legal compliance to minimise risks.
  • Implement health and safety policies fully to keep teams and customers safe.

Leadership:

  • Lead by example to motivate the team and provide excellent service.
  • Be approachable and respectful to customers and colleagues.
  • Work with enthusiasm and reduce waste.
  • Take responsibility for store operations, colleagues, and customers in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Communicate effectively and listen actively.
  • Plan and prioritise tasks proactively.
  • Set team pace by being hands-on.
  • Solve problems with sound decisions.
  • Coach the team to improve performance.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Motivate the team to uphold operational standards.

Required skills & experience:

  • Proven retail management experience.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer-focused with a passion for service.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Flexibility to work across different stores.
