Job summary

Legal & General, a leading UK financial services group, is seeking a Financial Control Manager to join Retail Finance in London, Hove or Cardiff. You will support balance sheet integrity, governance, and stakeholder confidence while coaching a junior colleague in a collaborative, high-performing team.

You’ll combine strong technical financial control expertise with problem solving and continuous improvement, helping deliver accurate reporting and robust controls across Retail operations.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant or equivalent experience.
• Experience in financial control, financial reporting or financial controller work in a large, complex or regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of financial control frameworks, governance and risk management practices.
• Understanding of insurance accounting, actuarial processes and regulatory reporting requirements including IFRS, Solvency II and SAO.
• Experience managing reporting cycles, balance sheet activity, technical accounting judgments and audit interactions.
• Analytical, proactive and adaptable approach with focus on continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a strong and consistent financial control environment across Retail Finance.
• Lead reviews of financial controls and governance activities to align with Finance standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls and drive pragmatic change.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual balance sheet reviews for accuracy and transparency.
• Produce clear management information on reporting and risk indicators for leadership and stakeholders.
• Advise on accounting processes, reconciliations and control requirements across Retail.
• Maintain BAU activity across risk and control, EUC, model governance and financial records.
• Manage and support a junior colleague while contributing to a high-performing team.
