Charity shops are vibrant community hubs, and in 2025 we are opening a new shop in Hythe, Southampton! By joining our team in Waterside, you will help establish this shop within the local community and keep people and their pets at the heart of everything we do.

More about the role
Our shops are lively centers supported by generous donations. Every purchase helps us continue our vital work, caring for over 40,000 animals annually through rehoming, veterinary, and education programs.

As a Standby Shop Assistant, you will provide essential support to our in-store teams, ensuring smooth shop operations.

Your responsibilities include assisting with customer service, stock management, and general shop duties. The shop operates Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00, and you will help maintain high standards of service and presentation. You will work alongside a dedicated team of staff and volunteers in a flexible and impactful role.

This is a zero-hours contract, with hours varying based on shop needs. The role pays the National Living Wage (£12.21/hour), with a total hourly rate of £13.69, including holiday pay.

About you
We are looking for someone who:
· Has previous retail experience.
· Is proficient in cash handling and reconciliation.
· Has supervisory experience.
· Thrives in customer-facing roles.
· Possesses computer literacy and administrative skills.

It would also be great if you have experience:
· Managing volunteers.
