Retail Assistant Manager (Superstore)

£25,314 - £29,555 plus benefits

Reports to: Store Manager

Department: Trading

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week

Location: Sunderland Superstore

We’re seeking a motivating Superstore Assistant Manager to join our trading team. You’ll act as an ambassador for Cancer Research UK, supporting the Superstore Manager and your team to maximize sales and fundraising targets. Your store will be a community hub where people meet, learn about our work, and see the impact of their support.

You’ll be surrounded by dedicated colleagues who share your commitment to beating cancer.

What will I be doing?

  • Supporting the Superstore Manager in leading, inspiring, and engaging a large team of paid staff and volunteers, including recruitment, retention, and development of a diverse team.
  • Taking responsibility for the commercial operation of the store, including display, merchandising, stock management, maintaining shop standards, store layout, sales, and income generation.
  • Working alongside the Store Manager to meet targets for donated stock, cash, gift aid, average selling price, sell-through, and stock processing.
  • Assisting with processing systems for donations, including logistics across other Cancer Research UK shops, superstores, and eCommerce platforms.
  • Leading by example to provide excellent customer and supporter service.
  • Building relationships within the local community and with colleagues to boost engagement, income, and stock donations.
  • Supporting the organization and delivery of creative fundraising events to meet targets.
  • Deputizing for the Store Manager when necessary.
  • Performing manual handling and physical activities as part of daily duties.

  • Experience managing and inspiring a large, diverse team.
  • Ability to work within targets and motivate others to achieve them.
  • Skills in multi-tasking within a busy retail environment with large stock volumes.
  • Creativity and a proactive approach to seeking new opportunities.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work on a rota basis, understanding the need for work-life balance.
