A leading healthcare provider in England is seeking a motivated Resuscitation Officer for a full-time role at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. The ideal candidate will deliver in-hospital training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and airway management while engaging with multidisciplinary staff. Anexciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivatedindividual as a Resuscitation Officer, to join a dedicated team within TheAdult Resuscitation Service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We arelooking to improve our service and have scope to expand our team with a12-month (37.5 hours per week) secondment or fixed term post.
Thepost holder will deliver in hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation,immediate airway management and defibrillation skills training tomultidisciplinary Trust staff in the emergency medical management of acutelyill adult patients. As such you will be expected to possess a recognisedteaching qualification alongside expert teaching skills. You must also holdALS instructor status.
Applicantsfor this post require current resuscitation/critical care experience as therewill be a clinical aspect to the role, attending cardiac arrest situationsand medical emergencies throughout the Trust for all specialities. The postholder will also be expected to participate in auditing of cardiac arrestprocedures, reported through Trust Governance

Aspart of the Resuscitation Services team, the post holder will be responsiblefor the training and education of Trust staff of all grades and disciplinesin the emergency medical management of acutely ill patients.
Thepost holder will be highly experienced in resuscitation and be in a positionof responsibility as a Registered Nurse, NHAT Paramedic or OperatingDepartment Practitioner.
Thepost holder must hold a current Resuscitation Council (UK) certificate inadult resuscitation. The ability to work on your own initiative as well aspart of a small knit team, under considerable pressure is essential.
Thepost holder, as part of a team of Resuscitation Officers, will assist in theplanning, organising and implementing of Resuscitation Services and trainingfor all clinical and non-clinical staff employed by the Trust across allhospital sites. This will require the post holder to be flexible and be ableto work at all sites across LTHT.

Promote the importance ofresuscitation throughout the Trust by negotiation and presentation ofspecialist knowledge and skills required in the resuscitation of patients,
Motivate all staff to provideappropriate response within the Trust policy, whilst acknowledging emotiveissues e.g. Religious, ethnic, clinical and prognostic outcomes.
Lead the cardiac arrest team whereappropriate and advise the team on treatment for medical emergencies duringthe immediate post resuscitation period
Utilise clinical skills, such asintravenous/intraosseous cannulation, administration of emergency drugs, ECGinterpretation, defibrillation and intubation.
Develop intermediate and basic lifesupport educational programmes to agreed local standards to meet therequirements of specific multidisciplinary staff groups
Attend resuscitation procedures andcardiac arrest calls across the Trust as appropriate, fulfilling an activeeducational and supportive role
Advise and work alongside thecardiac arrest team to ensure optimum patient management
Utilise high level of negotiationskills in order to promote changes in staff behaviour and attitudes tooptimise patient survival
Provide debriefing/counselling andreassurance to all staff involved in the care of the arrested and acutely illpatient.
Disseminate sensitive anddistressing information to patients and relatives, providing counselling andsupport for the multi-disciplinary team
Promote and lead effectivecommunication with all disciplines, patients/clients and relatives.
Provide expert professional adviceon resuscitation policies, procedures and equipment
Have the knowledge and skills tolead a cardiopulmonary arrest and evaluate/guide practice of existing leader
Identify and advise on clinicalrisk and clinical governance issues relating to resuscitation provision
Advise the Trust, organisationallyand operationally in matters pertaining to resuscitation provision
Assist in the development ofstrategies to meet the resuscitation policy, practice and needs of the Trust
Assist in the implementation ofpolicies and procedures to meet the resuscitation needs of the Trust inaccordance with Trust policy/Trust Resuscitation Committee/ResuscitationBoard
Develop and deliver intermediateand basic life support educational programmes to agreed local standards tomeet the requirements of specific multidisciplinary staff groups
Evaluate the effectiveness of theseprogrammes and review accordingly
Accountable for his/her practice,taking every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge andprofessional competence
Practice in accordance with theNMC. Code of Professional Conduct and other appropriate Trust and statutoryguidelines
Support the development ofresearch-based practices when assessing, planning, implementing, andevaluating standards of care within sphere of responsibility
Co-ordinate audit performance ofcardiac/pulmonary arrests.
Maintain effective communicationand teamwork within the Resuscitation Department thereby maintaining clearindividual responsibilities within the team
Ensure that national ResuscitationCouncil (UK) standards for resuscitation provision are upheld
Ensure that accurate trainingrecords are maintained
Ensure due regard is given to thecustoms, values and spiritual beliefs of patients/clients/colleagues andequal opportunities are practised.
Promote safe and effective practicerelating to resuscitation provision
Support the PaediatricResuscitation Service Team Leader to effectively bring together operationalResuscitation Training and Developmentpractices throughout the Trust
Co-ordinate and deliver externallyaccredited Resuscitation Council (UK) Neonatal national courses
Keep updated with resuscitationguidelines
When required deputise for theresuscitation team leader at the Resuscitation Steering Group andResuscitation Governance Group
Maintain clear individualresponsibilities within the team
Ensure safe practice is maintainedand promoted during training sessions
It is the responsibility of thepost holder to ensure familiarity with all training equipment
Represent the resuscitation serviceat any meeting where our specialist knowledge and experience is required
