An established community-focused organization is seeking compassionate volunteers to join their befriending project. This role involves meeting with refugees and asylum seekers to help them develop their English language skills and integrate into the wider community. Through regular meetings, volunteers will provide support, share cultural insights, and guide individuals to additional services. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those seeking to build connections and navigate their new environment. If you have a passion for helping others and fostering community ties, consider joining this vital initiative.
Restore is known primarily as a befriending project. Trained volunteers meet with a refugee or asylum seeker about once a fortnight to offer the opportunity to share together, develop English language skills, explain British systems and culture, visit places of interest and signpost to other services. Many of those with whom we work can build relationships with others from their own background, but befriending is a bridge into the wider community.
We ask those interested in befriending to attend our information and training sessions, which currently take place 3 times a year. Volunteers are also required to provide two referees, undergo a DBS check and a short informal interview.
