The Medical Directorate is seeking applications for the position of Lung Cancer Clinical Fellow, based within the Respiratory Department. This is a 12-month role, with the potential for extension.

Key Requirements:

A minimum of 2 years’ experience in General Medicine

At least Part 2 MRCP (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians)

Previous NHS experience is desirable, though not essential

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join the Lung Cancer Service, working as part of a dedicated team consisting of 2 Consultants and 4 Cancer Nurse Specialists, and collaborating closely with Oncologists and Thoracic Surgeons.

This role is ideal for individuals aiming to build a career in Lung Cancer with a specialist focus. It offers a wide range of professional development opportunities, including involvement in audits, Quality Improvement Projects (QIP), and clinical research. The candidate will be fully supported and strongly encouraged to engage in these activities as part of their career progression.

Training will be provided in a range of interventional procedures, with opportunities to develop advanced interventional skills. Additionally, the Fellow will gain valuable experience in areas such as Immuno-oncology, Clinical and Medical Oncology, Palliative Care, Thoracic Radiology, and Lung Cancer Histopathology. Tailored arrangements will be made upon appointment, based on the candidate’s specific interests and career aspirations.

The Fellow will share duties with other middle-grade doctors to ensure the smooth running of the Respiratory wards, with guidance from the ‘Consultant of the Week’. Evening and weekend on-call duties in general medicine will be part of the role, though daytime responsibilities will be focused entirely on Respiratory Medicine.
