Job summary

Elysium Healthcare is hiring a Respiratory Physiotherapist at Jacobs Neurological Centre to deliver advanced respiratory care for adults with tracheostomies and long-term ventilation in a specialist nursing home setting. You will lead assessments, optimise ventilation, and provide evidence-based interventions within a multidisciplinary team.

The role includes training staff, governance participation, and ensuring safety and dignity for residents, with HCPC registration and a BSc Physiotherapist

Qualifications

• Experience with managing tracheostomies including suctioning, cuff management, emergency response, and decannulation pathways.
• Ventilation support experience and troubleshooting, including weaning where applicable.
• Competent in respiratory management: manual techniques, suctioning, MHI, cough assist, and positioning for secretion management.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments including chest auscultation, secretion load evaluation, cough effectiveness, ventilator dependency, and airway patency.
• Provide advanced tracheostomy care including weaning readiness assessment, cuff management, decannulation planning, and emergency response with external support.
• Optimise ventilator settings in collaboration with specialists, monitor tolerance, and support weaning where appropriate.
• Deliver respiratory interventions such as manual techniques, suctioning, ACBT, MHI, cough assist, and positioning strategies.
• Develop personalized respiratory care plans for residents with complex conditions; collaborate with nursing, medical, speech therapy and care teams.
• Provide clear, compassionate education to residents and families about respiratory conditions and care plans.
• Maintain accurate clinical records, risk assessments, and incident reports per regulatory standards.
• Lead or contribute to audits, service development, and implementation of best practice guidelines.
