Job Purpose
The National Energy System Operator (NESO) has an exciting new role of Regional Energy Strategic Planner (RESP) for GB. RESP will support coordinated development of the distribution energy system and enable long-term investment to be made with confidence and ahead of need. The RESP will be developed to be "whole system", shaped by a strong place-based understanding and coordinating development across multiple vectors (electricity, gas, heat, hydrogen, etc.). RESP will ensure coherence between regional and national net-zero ambitions/plans.
We are recruiting a team to lead and develop the RESP role. This is a great opportunity to contribute to UK decarbonisation efforts at a local level.
As a RESP Energy Forecasting Analyst, you will lead the development and modelling of regional energy pathways/scenarios to project energy supply and demand across GB, facilitating confident long-term investments in gas and electricity networks. You will collaborate with stakeholders to develop consistent planning assumptions, covering electricity, gas, hydrogen, and other areas.
In this role, you will analyze various parts of the energy industry, conduct your own modelling, and communicate your findings. The position offers visibility within the ESO and the wider industry, providing opportunities to engage with diverse stakeholders. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are essential.
Ideal candidates will have a numerical/statistical background and programming experience (e.g., Python, R, BI, GIS) gained in energy planning or related sectors like energy consumption or transport.
This role can be based in Warwick with hybrid working options. We welcome full-time, part-time, and flexible arrangements.
As Great Britain’s electricity system operator, we balance supply and demand to keep the electricity flowing. In summer 2024, we will transition to the National Energy System Operator (NESO), overseeing the planning of electricity, gas, and hydrogen networks with operational independence, regulated by Ofgem.
Our mission is to shape energy use and consumption for future generations.
We seek candidates with diverse experience, including:
A salary between £51,000 - £61,000, plus bonuses, 26 days leave, and a competitive pension scheme. We support professional growth, diversity, inclusion, and a comprehensive rewards package.
