Job description

Organisation: Leicestershire County Council

Work Location: County Hall, Leicester Road, Glenfield, LE3 8RA.

Worker Category: Fixed Location Worker

Salary: £25,998 - £27,273 (pro rata) per annum

Working Hours: 22.5 hours - 40 weeks per year (term time plus one week in school holidays)

Contract Type: Permanent

About the Role

Leicestershire Assistive Technology for Education Support Team is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Resource Production Technician. This role supports the work of the wider Vision Support Team which is made up of a team of qualified teachers of the visually impaired (QTVI) practitioners and technicians.

This role involves producing both modified large print books and tactile resources, including braille to support access to learning and inclusion for SEND pupils with visual impairments. You will also, after suitable training, be required to support schools to produce their own resources by offering advice on layout and techniques and carrying out training on specialist equipment.

The role requires a strong competency with ICT as well as a background in office administration and a knowledge of braille is desirable. We would provide you with a full induction period and training to support the role.

An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • 5 GCSEs, grades 5 and above, including English and maths, or equivalent qualifications or evidence of study at level 3 or above
  • Qualifications in word-processing, keyboarding and ICT, with evidence of experience in administrative procedures and competent skills in relation to keyboard speed, computer programmes, OCR scanning and design software packages.
  • Significant successful experience in an assistive technology technician role in a school, office or other relevant environment
  • Be willing to undertake training in braille or have a RNIB or equivalent Grade 2 braille qualification or other relevant experience
  • Direct experience of working with children and young people who have visual impairment and/or specific learning difficulties
  • Experience of delivering formal and/or informal training and an ability to engage colleagues, pupils and school staff in participative processes
  • Have good interpersonal skills and an ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
