Job summary

The Methodist Church in Britain is recruiting for a male-only support worker to join a new not-for-profit children’s residential home for those with learning disabilities. The role focuses on daily routines, building independence and a therapeutic approach to behaviour, with about four sleep-ins per month.

No prior experience is required as full training is provided, but a commitment to NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare is expected.

Qualifications

• Hold or be committed to completing NVQ Level 3 (or above) in Residential Childcare.
• Willingness to complete enhanced DBS checks as part of safer recruitment.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting, positive relationships with children and young people.
• Support daily routines, from school runs and mealtimes to play and bedtime.
• Help children learn life skills and build their independence.
• Work as part of a team to keep children safe, secure and cared for.
• Support care plans, routines and risk assessments, with training.
• Handle challenging behaviour calmly and empathetically using a therapeutic approach.
• Take part in the sleep-in rota, averaging four sleep-ins a month.
• Take part in fun, active days.

Job description

This male-only support worker post sits in the founding team of a new not-for-profit children's residential home for children with learning disabilities. Work centres on daily routines, trusting relationships, building independence and handling challenging behaviour using a therapeutic approach. The rota includes evenings, weekends and about four sleep-ins a month, and the male-only restriction is a genuine occupational requirement for personal care to a male child. No experience is needed as full training is given, but a commitment to NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare is expected.
