Job summary

Action for Children is seeking a Casual Residential Support Worker to assist with daily care for children and young people aged 5-18 at Sycamore House in Shrewsbury. You will support personal needs, promote independence, and help with activities while building trusting relationships in a small, supportive home environment.

Ideal candidates have care experience, are reliable, and are willing to learn. A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete within 2 years) is

Qualifications

• Experience in a care setting and building positive relationships with service users and families.
• Demonstrate a solution-focused approach and emotional resilience for challenging situations.
• Willingness to complete Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare within 2 years with full support provided.
• Experience in trauma-informed settings, residential short breaks, or children's services is desirable.

Role: Residential Support Worker

Salary: up to £13.45 an hour

Location:

Shrewsbury

Contract/Hours: CASUAL hours to suit your work/life balance!

Hours are: Term time week days 7-10am 14.00-21.30 weekends 7/7.30-21.30 we also have odd shift on a Saturday 7-11am and Sunday 17.00-21.30

About the Service

Sycamore House is a welcoming, homely residential care home supporting children and young people aged of 5-18 with physical and learning disabilities.

Our four-bedroom home provides a safe, nurturing environment where each young person's interest routines and passions are celebrated.

A bit about the role

As a Casual Residential Support Worker, you'll support day-to-day care, including personal needs, promoting independence, and helping children engage in activities that inspire them - whether that's exploring nature, crafting, or gaming. You'll also assist with transporting children to school, appointments, and family time, building positive relationships and contributing to a fun, supportive atmosphere.

We're looking for someone with experience working with children (residential care experience preferred but not essential) who is enthusiastic, reliable, and willing to learn. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in a small, close-knit home where your skills and passions can help our children thrive.

Are you resilient and have a positive approach to change and challenge? We are looking for someone with a 'can do' attitude to join our team. Ideally you will have:

• Demonstrable experience of working in a care setting and developing positive relationships through trust.
• Application of a range of techniques to co-ordinate and communicate with service users and their families.
• Demonstrate a solution focused approach to address problems, individually and in a team setting.
• Demonstrate emotional resilience to respond to the challenging nature of the role.
• Possess a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or recognised equivalent) or if you do not possess this you must be prepared to complete this within2 years of commencing employment with us, full support will be provided.
• Experience in a trauma informed setting, residential short breaks, or children's services.
