Who are we?

Budwood, a part of Polaris Community, are a local business providing Residential Care and Support to children and young adults with emotional behavioural difficulties as well as social and emotional mental health. Our young people here may have experienced adverse childhood experiences, and the aim of the service is to provide them with a stable, comfortable home. As such, they will receive high levels of support and guidance to keep them safe, as well as guidance to enable them to learn new skills to help with a successful transition to independence and adulthood.

We are looking for passionate Residential Support Workers to join one of our homes in Bournemouth on a casual basis, covering shifts within the business as and when needed. This opportunity offers flexibility to work the hours you can commit to with no contractual obligation. You will be part of a team providing flexible and individual care packages to all our children and young adults. Working for Budwood, you will join a supportive and collaborative team that recognizes you as an individual. All staff are trained in ‘Developmental Trauma’ and therapeutic parenting to aid your understanding and ability to provide the best support possible.

Main Duties and Requirements:

  • Experience working with children and young people, with an understanding of the issues faced by young people in care
  • Flexibility in your availability to cover sickness, annual leave, and various shifts, including sleep-in shifts as necessary
  • Promoting, safeguarding, and protecting the welfare of our young people
  • Establishing and maintaining positive, trusting relationships with our young people
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and accept guidance and direction
  • Encouraging the development of our young people's individual interests
  • Hold or be willing to work towards a Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level in Health & Social Care or equivalent (not essential but desirable)
  • Full UK driving license and access to a car, as the role involves travel
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Willingness to learn
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team
  • Willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check, paid for by us
  • Experience with Emotional Behavioural Disorder, Social/Residential Work, or Youth Work is advantageous
