Full-Time (40 hours): Tuesday thru Saturday 3rd shift (12am-8am)

Part-Time Shift (16 hours): Sunday and Monday 3rd Shift (12am-8am)

*Both roles include a +$3.00 per hour shift differential*

This is an opening for an individual to work in our Shelter Staff program. Residential Counselors are responsible for working closely with clients in a congregate emergency residential shelter site, to provide life skills support to individuals who are staying at the shelter. This position also provides oversight of site operations, which include enforcing safety measures, program rules, and evening expectations using a trauma informed and client centered approach. Other responsibilities include: assisting with screening, intake activities and orientation of new clients into the shelter program; providing guidance and information to clients regarding the daily activity schedule, house rules and policies; overseeing security and safety; completing housekeeping duties; ensuring daily chores are completed; providing emergency crisis management to individuals.

Responsibilities:

As a Residential Counselor, you will:

  • Ensure the safety of guests and the site
  • Enforce rules and regulations to ensure smooth operation of the site
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, document appropriately, and communicate according to established guidelines
  • Complete the intake process for new guests
  • Provide support and structure, addressing guest/resident problems or concerns
  • Initiate crisis intervention when necessary
  • Record documentation as required by program guidelines
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings and trainings as requested
  • Monitor security cameras
  • Communicate concerns regarding behaviors, health, and safety to appropriate staff/personnel
  • Monitor entry to the site and manage telephones professionally
  • Maintain the privacy of resident/guest information in accordance with agency policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Complete all shift tasks according to program guidelines
  • Conduct inspections as required by guidelines
  • Stay awake and alert for the entire duration of all of your shifts

Qualifications include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 1 year previous experience working with individuals in need of social services (preferably low income individuals) strongly preferred
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills required in basic computer software and data collection
