Job description

Conveyancing Solicitor/Legal Executive 12 Month Maternity Cover, Newcastle Upon Tyne

This role is to cover a period of maternity leave; however, for the right candidate, there is the opportunity for it to go permanent.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Research information and communicate with clients and others in person, on the phone, by letter, or by email.
2. Use a computerised case management system, as conveyancing tasks are increasingly being completed online.
3. Take instructions from clients.
4. Seek to protect clients' interests at all times, while taking precautions against potential fraud and money laundering.
5. Send terms of engagement and estimates of fees and disbursements.
6. Obtain or check Land Registry documents or title deeds (if the land is unregistered).
7. Draft or check sales contracts and agree terms with the conveyancer acting for the other party to the transaction.
8. Collate and send or check supporting legal and financial documents.
9. Deal with all financial aspects of a transaction.
10. Exchange contracts and complete the transaction.
11. If the property is leasehold, obtain the landlord's agreement to the sale or the change of mortgage and deal with apportionments of rent and service charges.

Full-time, on-site, office-based position.
