Job summary

A Residential Childcare Worker role with Allscreens Nationwide Ltd in Nottinghamshire offers a chance to support children and young people in a therapeutic home environment.   • Significant experience supporting individuals with disability and/or emotional/behavioural needs.

  • Experience using ICT systems and producing clear, concise written information.
  • Understanding of issues affecting children and young people.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection.

This is a rewarding opportunity to join a small, experienced and supportive team providing safe, nurturing and relationship-focused care for children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

SALARY: £16.77 to £17.79 per Hour, £22.36 to £23.72 per Hour after 7pm until 7am, £33.54 to £35.58 per Hour on Bank Holidays + Benefits

Sleep-in duty: Basic duty payment rate of £32.86

LOCATION: Long Eaton, Nottingham, East Midlands

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 18 hours and 30 minutes per week. Shift based, including earlies, lates and sleep-ins to provide 24-hour care

JOB OVERVIEW

This is an exciting opportunity for a Residential Childcare Worker who wants to make a positive difference to children and young people in a therapeutic home environment.

As the Residential Childcare Worker you will provide emotionally attuned, person-centred support, helping young people feel safe, valued and understood while promoting their wellbeing, development and independence.

The Residential Childcare Worker will work in line with PACE, trauma-informed practice, social pedagogy and restorative approaches, supporting daily routines, education, hobbies, community participation and essential life skills.

DUTIES
  • Provide Therapeutic Care: Support children and young people with complex emotional and social needs using a considered, relationship-focused and therapeutically informed approach
  • Promote Safety and Wellbeing: Help ensure children and young people are safe, feel safe and receive responsive care that supports their physical, emotional and social development
  • Support Daily Routines: Assist young people with preparing for school, personal organisation, hobbies, activities and community participation
  • Develop Life Skills: Encourage young people to build confidence with cooking, budgeting, self-care, healthy relationships and personal responsibility
  • Build Positive Relationships: Develop trusting and respectful relationships with children, young people, families, colleagues and partner agencies
  • Coordinate Shifts: Support shift coordination, staff handovers and the smooth running of the home
  • Maintain Care Records: Contribute to care plans, risk assessments, safe care plans and clear written records using ICT systems
  • Work with Partners: Communicate with education, health, CAMHS, police, families and other agencies to support positive outcomes
  • Respond to Incidents: Take appropriate action in emergency situations, escalating to management when required
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
  • Significant experience supporting individuals with a disability and/or emotional, behavioural or social difficulties
  • Experience working with children, young people, families and other stakeholders
  • Experience working as part of a team, with the ability to use own initiative to deliver positive outcomes
  • Experience using ICT systems and producing clear, concise written information
  • Understanding of issues affecting children and young people
  • Understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and national guidance for good practice
  • Ability to communicate with children and young people, build relationships and respond appropriately to challenging behaviour
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries, promote dignity and respect, assess risk and take appropriate action
  • Proven ability to coordinate, organise and run a shift
  • Hold, be working towards, or be willing to undertake the Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce Diploma and Social Care Pathway, or an equivalent qualification
  • Right to work in the UK without sponsorship
DESIRABLE
  • Experience working with children and young people in a residential setting
  • Experience measuring the progress of children and young people
  • Experience working with children and young people on a one-to-one basis, in group settings and with families and other agencies
  • Understanding of Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and the Children Act
  • Group work experience
  • Experience working with disabled children and young people, including moving and handling and supporting personal care
  • Awareness of attachment, trauma-informed care, PACE, social pedagogy, PBS and restorative practice
