About us

Applied Care and Development is a well-established private sector residential childcare provider delivering quality services for children and young people since 2001. ACAD is part of the CareTech Family, a leading nationwide social care provider established in 1993, offering tailored care and support solutions across the UK. ACAD operates eight residential childcare services across Scotland and an independent school in Dumfries.

We are seeking compassionate Residential Child Care Support Workers to provide care for children and young people unable to live with their families, often having experienced trauma. We value individuals who understand the challenges faced by children and can support their recovery and growth.

We offer a safe, nurturing environment and are looking for caring individuals who can demonstrate these qualities in a challenging yet rewarding setting.

If you have the skills, values, and desire to support young people to reach their potential, we want to hear from you.

About the service:

Located in Castle Douglas, our service provides nine medium to long-term placements for young people with social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Staff are qualified and registered per SSSC regulations, with ongoing training, supervision, and appraisal. The service operates a rota system with staff on site at all times, and the house manager is available as supernumerary. An on-call service is also available for support.

You will ideally possess:

  • A good understanding of developmental needs and milestones for children and young people
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with children, families, and professionals
  • Ability to produce clear, concise reports and records
  • A valid manual driving licence
  • We support your professional development through specialist training and qualifications, such as HNC in Social Care or SVQ level 3 in Care
  • We offer a competitive salary, sleepover allowance, full-time permanent contracts, employee assistance programme, and pension scheme

All Residential Childcare Workers must undergo a PVG check by Disclosure Scotland and register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). CareTech covers the PVG check cost.
