North Lakes Children's Services is a well-established local provider of residential care and education for boys aged 6-18. We improve the resilience, self-esteem, and abilities of all the young people we work with.

As a Residential Support Worker, high standards are expected. You should be "strong, committed, and passionate" about your role. The young people are at the heart of everything we do—both for and with them. You will be a role model, a listening ear, warm, approachable, and potentially someone who can inspire and make a significant impact on a young person's life. You need to promote, support, and facilitate the creation of "happy memories" and have fun with them.

We are seeking permanent Support Workers with a warm, approachable manner who believe they can make a meaningful impact on a young person's life, especially in their recovery from early life experiences.

Main Duties

Each home has detailed shift planners/diaries/handover documents outlining specific daily duties and tasks, which vary between term-time and holiday periods. A summary of some duties during term-time includes:

  • Supporting boys' daily routines, including getting them up, promoting personal hygiene, meals, school runs, or activities
  • Supporting room cleans, developing life skills and independence, promoting socialization, and supporting bed-time routines

  • Conducting daily room checks and house cleaning tasks
  • Handling shopping, meal preparation, and kitchen hygiene/laundry duties
  • Performing specific checks such as COSHH, fire checks, and vehicle checks
  • Building relationships with families, noting special dates, and planning family contacts

As a Keyworker, you will build strong bonds, show warmth, empathy, and genuine care, creating special occasions and opportunities for the boys.

All Applicants Must Have:

  • Flexibility in availability, including sleep-in nights and shift work of 14 hours, typically 2 days on, 2 days off, with start times of 08:00, 12:00, or 14:00
  • An understanding of issues facing young people in care

  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check (paid for by us)
  • Experience with Emotional Behavioral Disorder, Social/Residential Work, or Youth Work is advantageous
  • Full, clean UK driving license and flexibility to cover other Residential Homes as needed

  • Up to 6 weeks' holiday per year
  • Rota pattern of 2 days on, 2 days off, with start times from 8am, 12 noon, or 2pm
  • All meals provided on duty
