Job description

Role Overview

As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting the leadership team by managing staff, resources, and the day-to-day operations of the home. You will also work directly with children and young people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour, contributing to their care, safety, and personal development.


Main Responsibilities

- To work with children and young people according to their individual needs, providing focused support as planned and directed.
- To assist in coordinating and managing activities to ensure safe, consistent care that meets the needs of the children.
- To encourage children to follow their own religion and cultural beliefs.
- To ensure adherence to procedures for the security, administration, and control of medication.
- To assist in organising staff responsibilities and planning duty rotas, including sleeping-in duties.
- To lead by example, promoting professionalism among the team.
- To encourage a culture of flexibility and teamwork; be prepared to work in other homes if required.
- To participate in staff development programs and contribute to in-house training sessions.
- To engage in team meetings and maintain communication
- To maintain the home to high standards of cleanliness
- To assist in ensuring the safety of the home’s residents, including organizing regular fire drills.
- To help manage the health of the children by arranging medical and dental exams, and maintaining hygiene standards.
- To operate within the Authority’s Health and Safety guidelines, including food handling best practices.
- To be an effective role model for other staff members and young people.
- Always observe strict confidentiality regarding the home and its residents, recognising their vulnerability and ensuring their privacy.


Requirements:
- Previous experience in residential childcare
- Previous experience with individuals with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour
- Clear DBS
- Ability to work weekends, evenings, nights and day shifts on a rota basis
