Full Time/Permanent: Shift pattern - ad-hoc cover

Salary: £12.72 per hour

Location: Headsnook, Brampton (and other locations in Carlisle)

North Lakes Children's Services is a well-established provider of residential care and education for boys aged 6-18, aiming to improve resilience, self-esteem, and abilities.

As a Support Care Worker, you are expected to be "strong, committed, and passionate" about your role. The young people are at the heart of everything we do. You will serve as a role model, a listening ear, and a warm, approachable presence, potentially inspiring and making a significant impact on a young person's life and choices. Your role includes promoting, supporting, and facilitating the creation of "happy memories" and engaging with the young people in fun activities.

We are seeking Care Workers to join our teams either in Carlisle or at Headsnook on a casual basis. Ideal candidates will have a warm and approachable manner and the ability to significantly impact a young person's recovery from early life experiences.

Main Duties

Each home has detailed shift planners and handover documents outlining specific daily duties, varying between term-time and holiday periods. Typical duties during term-time include:

  • Supporting daily routines, including waking, personal hygiene, meals, school runs, and activities
  • Supporting room cleaning, developing life skills, promoting socialization, and assisting with bedtime routines
  • Attending medical and other appointments
  • Supporting activity plans
  • Completing day sheets and working on individual targets
  • Filling out daily paperwork
  • Conducting room checks and house cleaning tasks
  • Shopping for food and other needs, meal preparation, and maintaining kitchen hygiene and laundry
  • Performing specific checks such as COSHH, fire, and vehicle checks
  • Building relationships with families, noting special dates, and planning family contact
All Applicants Must Have:
  • Flexibility in availability, including sleep-in nights and shifts up to 14 hours, with varied start times (08:00, 12:00, 14:00)
  • An understanding of issues faced by young people in care
  • Qualifications such as Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or willingness to work towards them
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Willingness to learn
  • Ability to work well in a small team
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check (paid for by us)
  • Experience with EBD, social/residential work, or youth work is advantageous
  • A full, clean UK driving license and flexibility to cover other residential homes as needed
