Residential Child Care Support Worker

Location: Carlisle

Contract Type: Part-time, permanent

Specific Hours: hours per week - shift pattern

Salary: Unqualified Basic Salary: £, pro rata (FTE) per annum with a potential to earn up to £, with sleep-in shifts. Qualified Basic Salary: £, pro rata (£, FTE) per annum with a potential to earn up to £, with sleep-in shifts. (Qualified Care Worker salary is based on the proven existing completion of a Level Diploma for Residential Childcare)

North Lakes Children’s Services is a well-established local provider of residential care and education for boys aged -. We aim to improve resilience, self-esteem, and abilities of all young people we work with.

As a Residential Support Worker, you are expected to be “strong, committed, and passionate”. The young people are at the center of everything we do. You will be a role model, a listening ear, warm and approachable, and potentially someone who can inspire and significantly impact a young person’s life, their choices, and their future. You should promote, support, and facilitate the creation of “happy memories” and have fun with them.

We are seeking permanent Support Workers with a warm and approachable manner who believe they can make a significant impact on a young person’s recovery from early life experiences.

Main Duties

  • Supporting daily routines, including waking up, personal hygiene, meals, school runs, or activities.
  • Supporting room cleans, developing life skills and independence, promoting socialization, and supporting bed-time routines.
  • Attending medical and other appointments.
  • Supporting activity plans.
  • Completing day sheets and working with boys on their targets.
  • Completing handover documents and daily paperwork.
  • Managing budgeting requirements.
  • Performing daily room checks and house cleaning tasks.
  • Handling shopping, meal preparation, and kitchen hygiene/laundry duties.
  • Conducting specific checks like COSHH, Fire Checks, and Car Checks.
  • Liaising with families, noting special dates, and planning family contacts.

As a Keyworker, you will build strong bonds, show warmth, empathy, and genuine care, creating opportunities for the boys.

All Applicants Must Have:

  • Flexibility for sleep-in nights and shift work, with rotating start times.
  • An understanding of issues facing young people in care.
  • Relevant qualifications or willingness to work towards them (e.g., Diploma in Residential Childcare).
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Willingness to learn and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to undertake an enhanced DBS check (paid for by us).
  • Experience with EBD, social/residential work, or youth work is advantageous.
  • A full, clean UK driving license and availability to cover other homes as needed.
