Job description

Residential Care Practitioner
Children & Young People
Location: Yorkshire
Pay: £19.21 per hour

Do you want to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people in Yorkshire? We have the role for you as a Residential Social Care Worker. As a Residential Childcare Worker you will provide day-to-day care to children and young people within a stable, safe and nurturing environment. You will build positive relationships with each child and young person in order to meet their various needs, taking responsibility as a keyworker. A Residential Childcare Worker supports the Registered Homes Manager and Senior Residential Support Workers to ensure the Statement of Purpose is met, with particular emphasis on providing a person-centred therapeutic service, through delivering high quality childcare to children and young people. Experience of working in a child's residential home desirable.

In this role you will:

  1. Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
  2. Work in accordance with children’s and young people’s care plans and risk assessments and contributing to their review.
  3. Form effective relationships with children and young people, their families (if appropriate) and external agencies.
  4. Maintain and promote residential childcare to high levels of professionalism expected by this local authority and Ofsted.
  5. Contribute to the educational and social development of each child and young person and assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans.
  6. Meet the emotional and physical needs of our children and young people and maximize opportunities for their development.
  7. Ensure that good quality records are maintained as required with supervision and advice from Senior Residential Support Workers and Managers.
  8. Ensure that the council’s policies and procedures are adhered to.
  9. Ensure the home is kept clean and in a tidy condition, adhere to the cleaning rota system, encouraging the children and young people to participate as appropriate.

About You
  • You will hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent e.g., NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care, Level 3 Children and Young People Workforce Diploma etc), OR you will have GSCE Maths and English grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) and will be willing to work towards and successfully complete a Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare within 2 (full time) years of your appointment, as funded by us.
  • You will have experience (paid or voluntary) and transferable skills working in a health and social care or educational setting, having also previously dealt with challenging behaviours.
  • Displaying great self-awareness and excellent communication skills, you will also have the ability to build strong relationships with our children and young people.
  • And you will have a passion for learning, self-reflection, and growth within this role; striving to deliver a high-quality service and demonstrating a continued commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of our children and young people.
  • A knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures is also essential. This post also carries essential car user status, therefore you must be able to drive, have a driving licence and have access to a car, however for disabled applicants, reasonable adjustments will be made where required.
  • Whilst you will be based at one of our three children’s residential homes, on occasions you will be required to provide cover across all three homes, to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our children and young people.
