We operate a busy Emergency Department at Watford General Hospital in Hertfordshire. The position is for a Senior Clinical Fellow within an established Middle Grade tier, supported by a dynamic team of Consultants.

Applicants must have full GMC registration and an MRCEM(UK) or equivalent qualification to be eligible.

The Clinical Fellow's main role is to support and supervise FY2s and Nurse Practitioners, providing direct patient care alongside middle-grade doctors, under consultant supervision. There is a 16-hour daily consultant presence (8 am to midnight), ensuring strong support and learning opportunities.
The department has introduced new working patterns, including roles such as ED controller, Resuscitation lead, and Senior Team for Assessment and Rapid Response (STARR), to ensure early patient assessment and oversight of the ED. Middle-grade doctors rotate through these roles, with consultants committed to teaching and professional development. Certificates in ATLS, APLS, and ALS are expected or to be obtained during the appointment.
The rota provides 24-hour coverage with a 1:3 weekend pattern. The post involves mainly out-of-hours clinical work, negotiable with the rota coordinator. The appointee will participate in management activities to develop future leadership skills, embodying the Trust’s values of Commitment, Care, and Quality.
